Elysium Health: Making Supplements That Work

Elysium Health was co-founded in 2014 by Dr. Leonard Guarente. Dr. Guarente is the director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging Research at MIT. Elysium is translating advances in science and technology into clinically-validated health products that work.

Elysium Health works together with world-class scientists from prestigious universities like Yale, Stanford, and Harvard. These scientists make up the company’s advisory board and help guide the direction of Elysium’s research. Dr. Guarente himself has also conducted significant research on the molecular and genetic causes of aging.

Basis is a supplement created by Elysium Health. It’s proven to increase levels of NAD+, a coenzyme that is essential to many cellular functions like circadian rhythms, energy creation, and DNA protection. As we age, our levels of NAD+ decline naturally and those functions break down. By increasing levels of the coenzyme, Basis is designed to support those functions and our cellular well-being.

Basis underwent a clinical trial in 2016. The trial demonstrated that Basis increases levels of NAD+ in humans by an average of 40 percent when the supplement is taken daily in the recommended dose (two capsules) over the course of several weeks. The results of the trial were published in the peer-reviewed science journal npj: Aging and Mechanisms of Disease.

Basis is sold on Elysium Health’s website for $60 per bottle. Each bottle contains about a month’s worth of supplement, so Elysium also offers monthly subscriptions to Basis. For $50 per month, Elysium Health will send you a bottle of Basis each month. Prepaying for a six-month or a twelve-month subscription decreases the cost per bottle to between $40 and $45.
